Working with me
The practical details.
Everything you'd ask on a first call, so we can tell quickly and in writing whether it's a fit.
Availability
Available now for remote contract work. Three or four days a week by default; full time for the right product.
Hours
I work 08:00 to 16:00 UTC−6. For UK teams that's every afternoon from 2pm (3pm in British Summer Time), enough shared hours for a stand-up, reviews and questions. For US teams it covers the working day.
How an engagement starts
A two-week paid trial at the full rate, on a defined piece of work. At the end either of us can stop, no hard feelings. If it's going well, we agree a block of around three months.
Rate and paperwork
- A day rate, quoted in your currency. Tell me your range and I'll tell you straight away whether it fits.
- UK citizen, UK-registered sole trader. I invoice you directly; clients outside the UK can pay through Deel, Remote or Wise.
- Agencies: I can set up a limited company for an outside-IR35 contract.
How I communicate
Mostly in writing. At the end of each working day you get a short update: what shipped, what's next, and anything I need from you. Decisions are written down in the pull request or the issue, so there's a record. When something is easier to show than describe, I send a short screen recording. I'll join a standing call or stand-up in the shared hours.
What I work with
TypeScript end to end: Next.js and React, Postgres, Cloudflare Workers, Stripe. I build with coding agents, and every change goes through a pull request, tests and a check in a real browser before it ships. Examples are on the work page.
Getting started
Email jay@jaystewart.co.uk with what you're building, what you need first and by when. Within a working day I'll reply with whether it fits, any questions, and what the first two weeks could look like. If you'd rather talk, book a 20-minute call.
